When a couple decides to get divorced, there are a lot of issues that need to be settled. Matters such as the division of marital assets and spousal support must be worked out before the divorce can be finalized. For some in this situation, there is sometimes another issue that has to be decided, and that is whether to keep her married name or revert to her maiden name.

For one woman, however, this will not be an issue. Our Houston readers may be interested in a story about a couple with the same first and last names. In 2008, the woman was searching Facebook for people with her last name. During her search, she found a man about her age who had both the same first and last name as she did. She sent him a message to say hello.

That message led to the man eventually traveling from Texas to Florida to meet the woman. A romance blossomed, and the couple married in 2009. In late 2012, the couple filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences.

The woman hasn’t been reached for comment, but the man stated that they gave the marriage a shot but that they were from two different worlds and just couldn’t make it work. The man also said, however, that the two have remained friends.

Although not all marriages end this amicably, there are things a parting couple can do to alleviate some of the stress and emotions that a divorce creates. Divorcing couples should learn about their rights regarding assets, property division and alimony. This knowledge can help make the process less painful.
